It was a double celebration for two bar owners who strive to bring a bit of class to Bedford when they celebrated one year in business and winning the Times and Citizen’s Bar of the Year competition.

Father and son Luca and Lui Magliaro run The Flute Wine and Lounge Bar in Ram Yard, Bedford.

By day the duo operate a successful and established audio installation service - fitting speakers in bars, clubs and houses of worship.

But by night they turn their hands to fine wines and champagnes for upmarket town centre revellers. Lui, 30, said: “It has always been something I’ve wanted to do. I have always wanted my own bar and I managed to persuade my dad to come into the business with me.

“The customers have been brilliant. There is a great atmosphere. It has been really good since we opened the doors.”

The bar, which offers a sophisticated drinking venue for the more mature clientele, has been crowned Bedford’s best bar thanks to customer votes.

Lui said: “We would like to thank all of our customers for voting and for the repeat business they have given us.

“We are very happy, it is a big achievement in our first year.”

Olga Norford, editor of the T&C said: “Congratulations to all at The Flute Wine and Lounge Bar on their success in our competition, and good luck for the future.

“A big thank you to everyone who voted in our competition.”

The winners were chosen following a vote by T&C readers, from a shortlist which was published in our edition of December 4.
