Pupils at a school in Sharnbrook are celebrating a cash windfall for sports equipment - and they are already having fun using it.
In July we announced that 13 schools were shortlisted for the T&C and BP Green Lights All the Way competition.
We’re now delighted to announce that with 156 votes, the winner was John Gibbard Lower School in Sharnbrook, who have won a fantastic £3,000 worth of new sports equipment.
All the new sports equipment, from basketballs to tennis racquets and hockey sticks and hockey goals, has now been delivered to the school.
Headteacher Sheila Kaznowski said: “We were very excited to learn that we were the winners of the BP Green Lights campaign in Bedfordshire. Thank you to all the parents who voted for us and made it happen. The sports equipment we have won is going to give the children so many good opportunities to get involved and play a wide range of sports.
“We are an academically high achieving school but it is always important to balance this with other opportunities for all children. Sport can be a great way for children to build their confidence and team building skills in other areas at school.”
Marc Loisel from BP also visited the school to meet the schoolchildren and see what difference the sports equipment has made.
He said: “It’s been fantastic to see the response to our campaign with the Times & Citizen and a huge congratulations to the winners, John Gibbard Lower School. It was great to see the children using their new sports equipment and we hope they will continue to enjoy it.”
