A toy shop entrepreneur learned this week she has bagged a hat-trick of award nominations.
Luan Hall, who owns Fairies ‘n’ Frogs, in Ampthill, is in the running to win a national retail award, a businesswoman award and an East of England business award.
On hearing she is up against the likes of John Lewis and Sainsbury’s for the national Progressive Preschool Awards, in the Best Retailer Initiative for the Preschool Sector, Luan said she was stunned into silence.
“That’s saying something for me who talks the hind legs off a donkey!” she said. “I actually asked them ‘have you got the right shop?’! I couldn’t and still can’t believe it.”
She made the Progressive Preschool Awards final six for Fairies ‘n’ Frogs Layaway Pay Scheme, wrapping and personalised stockings service, which allows customers to select Christmas presents and pay for them in instalments.
Running the shop has also seen Luan nominated for a Best Business Women Award for a retail or consumer business, and an East of England award for Bedfordshire Business Champion.
“I am chuffed to bits,” she said. “It’s amazing news.”
Since opening the shop five years ago, Fairies ‘n’ Frogs has gone from strength to strength. From its central Ampthill position, the shop has built up a reputation for being an “old fashioned” quality toy shop, which enables residents to be able to buy gifts in locally rather than having to travel to a bigger town or city.
