Two small businesses will get a taste of life in the High Street next week.
They will take up residence in th e Bed Pop shop in Bedford from Wednesday April 23 until Saturday, April 26 for a unique chance to sample running a shop in a town centre.
Sue Lang from The Beesness, who sells her jams, honey and other preserves at farmers’ markets and craft events, will be taking over part of the shop.
She will be joined by Val and Mark Howson from the Garden Friends Farm Shop and Vegetable Box Scheme based at Roxton.
The store was previously occupied by Erica Roffe with funding from the Portas Town Team.
Val and Mark work from Roxton Garden Centre selling locallygrown vegetables and deliver in Bedford.
Val said: “We simply cannot afford High Street rents so it’s a great opportunity to be on the High Street offering people in Bedford local produce - which they might not get from larger supermarkets. It will be a great learning curve. I first met Sue on a sausage making-course which she was running. She’s a very talented person.”
Sue said: “This is a great opportunity to promote my local products plus honey from my own bees.”
MPs Richard Fuller and Alistair Burt, and deputy mayor Charles Royden, will be at the launch on Wednesday at 11am.
