CELEBRITY mathematician Carol Vorderman returned to her home town this month, when she was guest of honour at Bedford Modern School’s artistic achievement awards.

The former Countdown brainbox was at an event that celebrated pupils’ achievements in art, music and performance arts.

As well as prize-giving there were performances including dancing, film montages, and scenes performed from Romeo And Juliet, Cabaret Evening and Grease.

Carol said: “It is fantastic to be here at Bedford Modern School and congratulations to all the prizewinners.

“Success in life is not defined solely by academic success. Signs of those who will go on to achieve great things include those who are prepared to work hard, make the effort and put the hours in.

“My advice is to always keep your mind open and try as many things as you can, as you never know where it will lead. For those pupils leaving Bedford Modern School after their A Levels this summer, I hope you have a great time at university, and for those remaining, I know that you will have many more great years at Bedford Modern School.”

Helen Rees-Bidder, director of the performance arts faculty at Bedford Modern School said: “The artistic awards evening is a wonderful occasion where pupils who have contributed to our vast programme of productions, concerts, exhibitions and other artistic events this year are recognised for their talents and achievements.

“We were thrilled to welcome Carol Vorderman to present the awards to our pupils this year.”
