IT may still be early in the year but the local events programme for 2012 is already in full swing. Here’s a taste of what’s happening over the coming days.

There are lots of events coming up at the Forest Centre at Marston Moretaine.

This Saturday (February 4), from 8am to 11am, there will be a bird walk entitled ‘Feathers in The Freezer’. The walk around the reserve is led by an expert guide and the cost is £3 for adults and £2 for children. No birding experience is necessary but bring a pair of binoculars if you have them!

The walk must be booked in advance by telephoning 01234 767037.

The following day (February 5), you can take a gentle Sunday stroll around the country park from 10.30am. The cost is £1 and there is no need to book, just meet at reception.

Walks last for approximately 2 hours and for more information telephone 01234 767037.

Next Sunday (February 12), there will be a public tree planting event at Octagon Wood, between Willington and Priory Country Park, from 11am to 3pm.

On Monday (February 13), there will be four ‘Colourful Creatures’ sessions at the Forest Centre for children aged between four and 10, whilst on Friday, February 17, there will be four ‘Stripey Faces’ sessions for children also at the Forest Centre.

For information on any of the events above, telephone 01234 767037.

On Sunday, February 12, the spectacular Bedford Eights and Fours Head Of The River Race rowing regatta will be taking place on the River Great Ouse in the town centre.

Many crews from across the region will race against the clock over a 2 kilometre course. The best places to view this free event include Sovereign Quay, along the Embankment or from the Suspension Bridge, and racing takes place from 9.15am to 4.30pm.

For more information, visit www.bedfordrowing.co.uk or telephone 01234 353183.

Did you know that Bedford Tourist Information Centre (TIC) is a booking agent for both Milton Keynes Theatre and the Royal & Derngate in Northampton?

Both venues have a diverse programme of events throughout the year so come along to the TIC and pick up their latest brochures. We can also sell Theatre Tokens which make excellent presents as they can be used at over 240 venues around the UK, including those in London’s West End.

Customers may also like to be aware that in addition to the ever popular Bedford town centre shopping vouchers that are available from the TIC, we are now also able to offer ‘Love to Shop’ vouchers which can be used in stores across the UK. The TIC is open on Mondays to Saturdays from 9am to 4.30pm so why not come in and visit us? We look forward to seeing you!
