Talented Bedfordians hit all of the right notes for Singers
WHEN it comes to talented people with a flair for creating what they want, Chris Dawkins is a dab hand.
Because Chris is the owner of Singers Bedford, the sewing and materials store that has been a popular destination in town for three decades.
And he is looking forward to seeing the range of skills, abilities and talents that this year’s entrants will be showing off at this year’s Bedford’s Got Talent.
He said: “I am particularly looking forward to the final because it will be held on my birthday, so I will be on the judging panel and seeing some really exciting talents.
“I am more of an entertainee than a entertainer, but I am a big fan of amateur dramatics shows and enjoy supporting them by going to shows.
“It is going to be a great night.”
Singers was founded in Bedford 30 years ago, and has been in its current Lurke Street for 20 years.
Chris took over the firm from his late father Roger, and over the last 12 months the firm has expanded its horizons, with more fabrics and quadupling its range of wool.
The store also stocks dressmaking fabrics for weddings, plus a dressmaking service provided by a dedicated team of three who are on site from Monday to Friday.
Chris added: “We’ve increased a lot between January and June, and we’re keen for people to know that we are about more than just sewing machines.
“We have a real range of customers, from ordinary everyday people to some interesting characters,
“We also have some people who come in who have mental health issues who buy their material for cross-stitching. That’s quite therapeutic apparently, and it fits in nicely with our being part of the community.”
