Nick Clegg meets business chiefs
DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg visited Bedford today (June 16) when he met bosses from leading Bedford Borough businesses.
The Liberal Democrat leader, who was in town for a national gathering of Liberal Democrat councillors in Bedford this weekend, met figures from 14 of the biggest firms in Bedford Borough in a meeting arranged by Mayor Dave Hodgson.
The meeting was hosted by construction firm SDC at its headquarters in Caxton Road.
Mr Clegg said: “I’ve been hearing from leading local businesses here in Bedford about the key issues for them.
“Business like those I’ve met this morning are the engines of their local economies, and the important issues for them are the important issues for our economy across the country, including here in Bedford.”
SDC managing director Francis Shiner said: “We were delighted to host the Deputy Prime Minister, and to raise a range of issues with him alongside fellow key local businesses.
“To have the opportunity locally to talk directly to a figure at the top of government is a rare thing, and I’m glad we were able to make use of it here today.”
