A couple have named their new fashion and accessory store in Bedford after their two young daughters.

Simi and Lola has opened for business at 6 Church Arcade selling a range of handmade jewellery, handbags from across the globe, clothes and accessories.

The shop, run by husband and wife team Hatib and Adeola Camara, is full of beautiful items that bring a dash of colour to the town centre.

Named after Simi, 7, and her sister Lola, 3, the shop has its origins in Adeola’s passion for designing and making jewellery.

She said: “I was looking for a complete set of jewellery but couldn’t find what I wanted, so I made my own. When I wore it everyone wanted to know where I got it.”

She began selling pieces at fairs and fetes and customers would ask if she had a shop, and eventually Simi and Lola was opened.

Adeola added: “We sell a lot of statement pieces such as jewellery, handbags and they are not the sort of goods you will see every day in the High Street. We go for things that catch the eye.”

Bags and clothing from Italy are complemented by a huge range of colourful jewellery, scarves and other accessory items.

The shop also offers a repair service, or you can have existing jewellery modified.

And the daughters who inspired it all? Adeola said: “The girls used to say ‘our shop’ so we named it after them. We spent so much time away sourcing goods that we dedicated it to them.”
