If you are going shopping in town on Saturday, plan a few extra hours to take in the Big High Street Showcase.
Bedford’s free family-friendly festival features music, rides , martial arts demonstrations, and even an owl display.
And military enthusiasts will be catered for by the Air Training Corps and a fly-by from the famed Red Arrows air daredevils.
More than 50 businesses and organisations in High Street, Mill Street, The Arcade and the pedestrian zone are taking part, with many trading outside their premises.
One of these is the BedPop shop, in the former Pizza Hut building, which is selling its cardboard Foldees and hosting a drop-in session and gallery with members of Bedford Camera Club.
The club will also have information about a photographic competition to take images of the High Street.
Throughout the day entertainers will be performing on the Lady K Music and Dance stage, featuring song, poetry, dance and theatre.
The event is being organised by Bedford Borough Council, with the support of Bedford BID and Portas Pilot Bedford.
Mayor of Bedford Dave Hodgson said: “The Big High Street Showcase was a tremendous success last year, with huge numbers of additional visitors attracted to the town centre.
“We want as many people as possible to come and enjoy the fun this year, too, with an array of activities, stalls, entertainment and more on offer.
“We’re looking forward to a great atmosphere once again, as people take the opportunity to enjoy and support their town centre at this genuine community event.”
High Street and Mill Street (from Duke Street) will be closed to traffic from 6am to 7pm.
Drivers are advised that diversions will be in place and they should plan extra time for their journey.
