A charity that helps young people will benefit when an auction of handmade rugs and carpets is held on Friday, March 7 in Bedford.
Auctioneers W&H Peacock are bringing a taste of Middle Eastern magic to the town when the hammer comes down at the specialist sale.
The selection of hand-made rugs and carpets from Kabul, Afghanistan will go under the hammer and all profits raised will go to Afghan Action, a UK charity that supports young people.
There will be 25 carpets and rugs on offer, with estimated values of between £20 and £500.
Afghan Action is a very practical charity, offering training to young people in Kabul.
While learning to weave people also are given free literacy education, meals and healthcare, and these beautiful rugs have been sold across the world.
The rugs can be viewed in advance of the sale and on-line bidding is also possible.
More than 700 items are going under the hammer on March 7, including furniture, pictures, ceramics, jewellery and watches. Visit www.peacockauction.co.uk
W&H Peacock has been auctioning goods since 1901. Today it is one of Britain’s largest auction houses selling a wide range of goods from fine art to ex retail stock and commercial assets. The experts regularly hold free valuation days and also give talks and presentations to local groups. Afghan Action combines a charitable vision with a commercial mindset to bring lasting benefit to hundreds of Afghan people.
Since opening in 2005, they have educated, trained and employed over 1,000 young men and women. The focus has been on training people to weave carpets and, since mid 2011, to sew and make clothes and uniforms. Visit www.afghanaction.org
