Bookies predict a Tory landslide
Bedfordshire will be true blue, according to Ladbrokes
Bookies are predicting that Bedfordshire will become a true-blue county after the general election, tipping all six parliamentary seats in the area to be won by Conservatives.
Tory candidates tipped to win their seats include sitting MPs Nadine Dorries, Andrew Selous and Alistair Burt.
But Mike Smithson, the Bedford-based political commentator who runs the politicalbetting.com website, believes the race is not over yet.
He said: "The truth is that's how it looks and the Bedford and Kempston has odds of 4/9 on a Tory gain.
"There are only really two seats that are marginal in Bedfordshire, Luton South and Bedford and Kempston.
"The Tories did do badly at the Bedford mayoral elections and the Liberal Democrats are going to put up a good fight."
Bookmakers Ladbrokes have set odds for Conservatives Nadine Dorries (100/1 on) and Alistair Burt (500/1 on) to see off the competition with ease.
And they reckon the Conservative challenge should also fare well in Bedford and Kempston, where candidate Richard Fuller is given shorter odds than sitting Labour MP Patrick Hall.
Liberal Democrat candidate Henry Vann isn't too much of a long shot, either – the experts say he is a 7/2 bet.
The only strong Labour challenger is Luton North MP Kelvin Hopkins – and even he is is only rated as evens.
Mr Smithson admitted that he had already had a flutter on the race himself.
He said: "I have a bet on the Liberal Democrats for Bedford and Kempston at 50/1, it's a good value bet.
"There has been a massive change in the national outlook and Labour's situation looks pretty challenging."Bedford and Kempston
