Blunham fire being treated as arson

Blaze caused £100,000-worth of damage

A blaze that spread through a corrugated material company is being treated as arson.

Firefighters were called to Blunham in the early hours of Sunday morning after a fire engulfed 12 trailers at Abbey Corregated Ltd, causing more than 100,000 worth of damage.

The company makes corrugated cardboard and packing, and the trailers were full of cardboard.

A statement released by the company said: "Several trailers were damaged and the incident is now being investigated."

And Bedfordshire Fire and Luton Rescue Service were called back on Monday evening after a "hot spot" was found and created another small fire.

A spokesman for the service said: "With these sorts of materials, which are highly flammable, sometimes a hot spot can occur from a previous fire."

Police are now looking into the incident, which they believe was started deliberately.

Anyone with information should call 01582 473326.
