Members of Bedford Blues had their hearing checked using the latest in hearing screening technology. The checks were carried out by Hidden Hearing via its special designed mobile hearing unit currently travelling the country as part of a national campaign to get the public thinking about hearing healthcare.

Steffan Jones, Michael le Bourgeois and Patrick Tapley all visited the mobile unit and had their ears checked for hearing loss and wax, and after receiving great results took a few minutes to try and test one another under the watchful eye of audiologist Paul Tapley. There was even time for a bit of weight training as they lifted up Danni, one of the mobile team members.

Paul said: “The campaign is designed to encourage people to think about their hearing more regularly and to have annual check ups just like you would for an eye test. We value our hearing as one of our vital senses in life so taking care of it with the appropriate protection in loud situations as well as having an annual test is so important.”

The campaign has also been backed by breakfast TV’s Dr Hilary Jones, who recommends anyone over the age of 55 take the opportunity to have a free hearing screening. He said: “The most common form of hearing loss is age related, affecting 40% of those over 50, rising to 70% of those aged over 702. Research carried out by Hidden Hearing reveals the true impact of hearing loss; 40% of people with undiagnosed hearing loss report feeling “frustrated” by their poor hearing and 41% said they were ‘missing out’ on life², and that their quality of life had diminished³.

“It is important not to overlook this aspect of your health and early diagnosis can safeguard this most important sense.”

“I would like to see individuals thinking about personal health at an early stage, as I believe it is vital to living a long and prosperous life. Hearing health is easily overlooked, but the consequences of untreated hearing loss on an individual’s health and quality of life can be severe.”
