Beat the credit crunch at the Horse & Jockey
Pay-what-you-like at Ravensden pub
A pub has come up with a cheap as chips way to charge customers for food – and it's not all credit crunchy salad.
Once a month the team serving up pub grub at the Horse and Jockey in Church End, Ravensden, invites customers to pay whatever they like for their meal.
Customers book in advance to try a themed menu created by the inn's junior chefs and score their efforts at the end of night.
Previous themes have included authentic Italian cuisine and mouthwatering Moroccan meals.
Landlady Sarah Smith, 55, said: "It's a really nice way to encourage the junior chefs and we also have guest chefs that come in. The chef devises the menu and the success of the night is judged on its popularity.
"We don't sting customers on the price of drinks but so far we have tripled our takings."
As well as creating an attractive menu, guest chefs must source all produce for the night.
Each guest can score up to five points per dish and is charged accordingly.
The next event will take place on July 13 and will have an Italian theme.
