A babysitter raped a young girl he was supposed to be looking after in Bedford, a jury was told today (Tuesday).
Matthew Dotchin, now 36, is alleged to have carried out three attacks on the girl when she was aged between five and seven.
Last year the girl, who is now 14, wrote down what she said happened. When her mother read it she called the police, Luton Crown Court heard.
Prosecutor Charles Ward-Jackson told the jury that Dotchin is also alleged to have indecently assaulted a seven year old girl he was babysitting between October 2002 and October 2003.
He said he ‘French kissed’ the girl. She did not speak about it until she was aged 11 or 12 when she told her mother, who called the police. Dotchin was first arrested in 2008. He denied anything happened and no further action was taken.
Mr Ward-Jackson said when Dotchin was arrested on that occasion, he became a “marked man” and the offences against the other girl stopped.
The girl who was allegedly raped told a friend what happened when she was aged about 12, but the police did not get involved in her case until last year.
The mother was informed that she had told another teenager what had happened. “The girl found it difficult to put into words so she wrote it out in a letter, which has been kept by the police,” he said.
Dotchin, of Grosvenor Street, Bedford, denies three charges of rape of a child under 13 and one of indecently assaulting a child aged seven.
When questioned by the police on July 4 last year he gave a short statement in which he denied all allegations.
The case continues.
