Another success for arm-wrestling champion Rod Lenette
Bedford star puts his best arm forward
Arm-wrestling champion Rod Lenette has continued his comeback, after being claiming the left-handed title in a new weight category at the British Arm Wrestling Championships last weekend.
Rod, 43, who lives in Pavenham, picked up gold after stepping up to the under 80kg weight category.
The success marks another stage in his return to the sport, after he was forced to retire from competition when he suffered kidney failure.
Despite going through five years of dialysis he has returned to the sport, and one of his proteges, Stephen Sowah, finished third in the super heavyweight category after being trained by Rod.
"I was only beaten by two people in the whole event," said Rod.
"When I was fighting right-handed I was beaten by Craig Saunders, who is known as the Birmingham Bullet. He is so good he also beat all the super heavyweights. Left-handed I was only beaten by the champion of champions, Marvin Palmer."
Although Rod is right-handed, he trains with both arms, which he says gives him an advantage over much of the competition.
He said: "It means a lot that I'm not a one-trick pony.
"We train using a table that is set up for both hands.
"I am trying to become world class again."
