Ambulance crew injured en route to emergency

Two paramedics hurt in collision near Ampthill

Paramedics needed hospital treatment after they were involved in a collision while en route to an emergency call.

The ambulance was rushing to an emergency with its lights and siren on when it was involved in a collision with a blue Mercedes SL500 on the B530 near Ampthill on Thursday (July 9).

The ambulance left the road and crashed into a ditch next to the Lockheed Martin site at around 10.30am.

The vehicle's crew, a man and a woman, were taken to Bedford Hospital with minor injuries.

Another ambulance was sent to the original emergency call.

The male driver of the Mercedes was uninjured in the collision.

Gary Sanderson, spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service, said: "A full internal investigation has been immediately launched to ascertain why this collision occurred."
