Budget supermarket Aldi has drawn up plans to open a food store next door to Bedford’s Morrisons.

Planning documents reveal that the store would be 1,254 sqm - almost half the size of neighbouring Morrisons in Ampthill Road and, if given the go ahead, it would create 30 to 40 local jobs and represent a multi-million pound investment in the town.

The proposed site is on land at the former Camford Works, where permission for a 140 bed hotel has previously been granted but a lack of commercial interest meant it did not go ahead.

Aldi already has a store on the otherside of Bedford in Church Lane.
