What better way to spend your leisure time than messing about on the river?
If you can commit to a few hours a month, the John Bunyan community canal boat is looking for volunteers to help crew its river cruises, and with on-shore administration.
The boat is run by the Bedford and Milton Keynes Waterways Trust to allow local people and tourists access to boating. The charity also keeps the pressure on to build a link between the River Great Ouse, in Bedford, and the Grand Union Canal, in Milton Keynes.
A BMKWT spokesman said: “We have a busy schedule of public and charter cruises planned for 2014, including the Bedford River Festival in July, for which more volunteers are urgently needed.
“Volunteers tell us they get a buzz from being part of a team which gives so much enjoyment to so many people, regardless of whether they’re out on the water or on shore helping to ensure that the John Bunyan publicises the Waterway and raises funds to support the Trust.”
Crew volunteers should be able to commit to two-to-four sessions a month, from April to October, while shore members a couple of hours a week.
