Goldington Academy celebrated its 50th anniversary with a celebration evening where past and present students and staff shared the occasion.
It was in 1965 that the academy welcomed its first intake of pupils on the current site in Haylands Way. Current Arts Award students worked with film company Run Away Media to create a film all about the school’s journey through the last 50 years. More than 200 guests were entertained by musical performances from existing pupils, over 77 contemporary dancers.
Mr Santaniello, a former pupil, gave a speech on his time at the school. Guests were invited to look at memorabilia from the school’s history over a celebratory drink in the school courtyard.
Celebrations continued with pupils involved in two off-timetable days, sampling lessons from the 1960s, looking at archive information on the school meeting some of the school’s former pupils.
Mr Galbraith, principal, said: “It’s been a delight to work with so many students on this project. Unless we understand our history we can’t plot our future. It was wonderful to see the pleasure this event brought to so many with a love of Goldington Academy.”
