Trustees say pre-school has one month to find new home
A pre-school is fighting closure after being told it has just one month to get out of its home.
Broom Pre-school has been told it must be out of the Village Hall by February 12.
But it says it will fight back, and has already contacted the Charities Commission saying it believes the trustees are in breach of their constitution – as well as seeking legal assistance.
And the pre-school, which has been running for 35 years, has also lodged a petition with 10 Downing Street, which has already gathered more than 100 signatures and set up a Facebook group – Keep The Fawns Preschool in Broom – for worried parents.
Jessica Andrews, who is the chairman of the pre-school as well as a parish councillor, says they will be doing everything in their power to make sure the parish keeps its pre-school.
She said: "We've had ongoing issues with regard to how the hall is being looked after. They don't think we're doing a good enough job. It's all very petty.
"The parents are worried about where their children are going to go and the community has been so supportive. The people of Broom are horrified that these four trustees are going to remove this facility."
Talks are already underway to move the pre-school to Southill, but until the new premises can be registered with Ofsted it will only be able to offer two hours instead of its usual three and no extended services.
