Police are hunting a group of people - including two middle-aged women - who stole £3,500 worth of cigarettes in a shop raid in Bedford.

Several members of the group distracted staff by asking about prices of other items, while two women in their 50s sneaked into the store room to steal the cigarettes.

Store owner Priti Mandalia, 38, called police but said he felt let down by them, claiming they said they were “too busy” to attend the incident last Thursday, November 6.

Mr Mandalia, who runs the Londis shop in Stanley Street, Bedford, said: “We feel the police could have done more at the time.”

A Beds Police spokesman said a description of the offenders was distributed to officers in the area and a scenes of crime officer attended that evening.

They added they did not attend straight away because there was no urgent threat as the offenders had already left.
