Ward grabs Scottish title
Gently does it for Caddington
Caddington golfer Nick Ward, pictured below, had cause to celebrate after winning the U14 Scottish Boys Strokeplay Championship.
The 13-year-old got the better of Anthony Blaney at the fourth extra hole after both players had forced a sudden-death play-off with rounds of one-under-par 69s.
Ward's triumph was sealed by a superb 35-foot birdie putt and adds to the Hertfordshire Boys' title that is already in his trophy cabinet.
Ward is a member of the Daren Turner Golf Academy and is one of a number of up-and-coming juniors at Caddington.
Caddington GC secretary David Isger said: "We are extremely proud of our current batch of juniors, some of whom are now competing for places in the club's scratch team.
"This, together with the plans for development of the golf course, gives us all great encouragement for the future and places Caddington firmly on the local golfing map."
Meanwhile, a narrow victory over Wavendon meant Caddington GC's gentlemen continued their fine run of results.
Following on from a 6-2 win in the home fixture, Caddington also prevailed in their away fixture at the Three Locks, which is usually a difficult fixture, but they managed to secure a narrow 3.5-2.5 victory.
The result means the club have lost just twice in nine matches so far in the gents club matches, both away from home.
Next up is a trip to Aylesbury Vale, where they will look to keep their good run going.
Legendary former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson, meanwhile, was the star attraction at Caddington Golf Club's Captain's Day.
Generous club members have raised more than £7,000 this year, with £1,000 being contributed on the day, in aid of the Willow Foundation Charity, which was set up by Wilson.
Club captain Rowland Valentine said: "It was fantastic for all the members, many of whom are ardent Arsenal fans, to get to meet an Arsenal legend.
"Having Bob here in the morning got the day off to a flying start, a feeling which was carried on through the day to the presentation in the evening and I can't thank him enough for giving up his time."
