How the Hatters rated
Kevin Pilkington: 6.5 – Had very little to do, but what he did do he did competently and was brave and alert when necessary.
Freddie Murray: 8 – Competed doggedly against his former club and barely put a foot wrong all afternoon.
Alan White: 8.5 – Conditions suited him down to the ground, the dominating centre-half was made for games like these.
Shane Blackett: 8.5 – Almost flawless in the air and solid on the deck, looked in his element.
George Pilkington: 8 – Never quite as good at right-back but helped to give the Hatters real structure and solidity. Distributed the ball well.
Keith Keane: 8 – Formed a formidable central midfield partnership with Nicholls. Broke up the play at every opportunity and helped to keep Town ticking.
Kevin Nicholls: 8.5 – His best game in a long time. Back at the heart of things for the Hatters. He won plenty of ball and used it wisely.
Claude Gnakpa: 7.5 – Produced some real quality for Luton on a day when dogged determination was the prerequisite.
Adam Newton: 7.5 – Not a natural left-winger but his pace and work ethic mean he will do a decent job in any position.
Kevin Gallen: 8 – Took his goal well and used his body to good effect but lacked the legs to really hinder Grays defence.
Tom Craddock: 8 – Well deserved goal, brought his drought to an end. Now is the time to kick on for the young striker.
Mark Nwokeji: 7 – Pacy and deceptive, he brings an explosive new dimension to Town's strikeforce.
Jake Howells: 6.5 – Got stuck in and helped to see the Hatters over the finishing line.
