Hatters bolster their squad ahead of the big kick-off

Promising Norwich City youngsters Chris Martin and Michael Spillane have joined Luton Town on a season-long loan.

Martin, 19, is a striker who has netted five times in 30 games, while midfielder Spillane, also 19, has 18 first team appearances to his name.

City manager Glenn Roeder said: "They have gone on loan, to the same club, for one year."

Martin's agent, Phil Sproson, said: "It is a good thing for Chris. He needs to find himself again. Mick Harford is a very good manager and a former striker so hopefully he will be able to get the best out of Chris. Glenn Roeder clearly doesn't fancy him so it's the best thing for Norwich and the player.

"I'm confident that he'll score goals at Luton, he's got bags of ability and this could be the catalyst he needs."

Spillane's agent Paul Goddard added: "Michael's been out of the picture for a little while now at City and this is a good opportunity for him to show what he can do. He needs to play and needs to develop."
