Rovers and Blues get set for FA Trophy action

With the FA Cup gone for another year, Barton Rovers and Dunstable Town now switch their focus towards the FA Trophy which gets under way on Saturday.

Rovers make the trip to Bury Town, while Blues are also on the road as they go to Burgess Hill Town. Both are preliminary round ties.

Barton boss Gary Fitzgerald says he expects a positive response from his side after recent disappointments.

He said: "We've trained extremely hard over the last couple of sessions but now we have to start picking up a few results, regardless of whether it's a league or cup game. I expect us to now start performing.

"A few decent results and performances would really kick-start our season because we haven't really got going as yet.

"The lads were told in no uncertain terms that what they've produced recently hasn't been good enough and we need a response and it has to start now."

Dunstable manager Lee Cowley, meanwhile, will also be expecting an improved showing from his side after heavily criticising them for their performance in the 3-2 defeat against Chipstead in the FA Cup second qualifying round at the weekend.

He said: "There were a few harsh words said afterwards. Players have got to reflect on their own performances, the same as I've got to reflect on my team selection."

>> Defender Ben Coker, who had been on loan at Barton from Histon, has agreed to join Bury Town.

He has also been invited on a week's trial by Stevenage Borough. For more on Barton Rovers and Dunstable Town, pick up a copy of the News/Gazette.
