Limond opts for Madison Square fight ahead of Earl

A dream New York bout for Willie Limond has seen Graham Earl's search for an opponent turn into a nightmare.

Earl, 29, who was forced to pull out of a fight in Glasgow for Limond's IBO lightweight intercontinental title with a hand injury, has been left fightless by the news that the Scot will be competing on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe's swansong in the ring against Roy Jones Junior.

And the gutted Lutonian ad-mitted he couldn't blame Limond for choosing a date at New York's Madison Square Garden over him.

He said: "It's pretty much every fighter's dream fight – I can't blame him.

"It's just a pity I had the injury, otherwise the fight would have happened.

"He is moving up a weight for it, I believe."
