Money satisfied with almost perfect show

Satisfied Luton Town boss Richard Money felt his side coped almost perfectly with the conditions as they produced and battling performance to win 2-0 at Grays Athletic.

And he was full of praise for his disciplined defence that restricted their hosts to hardly any chances.

He said: "As soon as the game finished on Wednesday we've been very professional about how we would approach this match.

"I thought we were very good today. I thought we had a real good control of the game from start to finish. It was a professional performance and worthy of the win.

"Today was the best team available to me to play Grays and win this match.

"People may ask why did I pick that back four, but I knew it would be a heavy pitch and they would be very direct so I picked a strong back four. They played really solid throughout.

"I think it said a lot about the back four and the team we defended sensibly and professionally both with and without the wind and I thought Kevin Pilkington was outstanding.

"I think we showed Grays not only that we are a very good team but we are prepared to work hard and do all the dirty stuff for one another."

Money admitted that the wet and windy conditions were far from ideal, but was delighted with the way his charges had coped.

He continued: "There was no doubt in our minds that Grays would like the game on. Having had the two games this week and had a tough ninety minutes on Wednesday it was a good time to get us.

"I've played in worse and managed in worse and you just get on with it.

"The key thing for us right from the first whistle was to win the game but if we could play some football, which I think we did, then all the better."

Money opted to go with the experience of on-loan Notts County keeper Kevin Pilkington in goal over in-form stopper Shane Gore and said it was those kind of difficult decisions that he had been brought in to make.

He was even afforded the luxury of not naming the likes of Rossi Jarvis and Andy Burgess in his 16-man squad as his options continue to broaden.

Money said: "The experience factor decided it in the end. We were looking to bring in a keeper and when we decided it would be Pilkington there was no decision to be made, he was playing today.

"It wasn't an easy choice for us and Shane Gore has done very well in the two games for us against Rochdale."

"Burgess, it wasn't his type of pitch to be on the bench. Emanuel will be back this week, Hatch will be back in December, how many players do you want?"

He also sang the praises of Luton's travelling army of supporters, adding: "It's a good job they came otherwise there wouldn't have been many here. They are terrific and it's part of the reason why I accepted the job. I've always felt they had a real passion for the football club and I want to give them something to be proud of."
