Winger backs his former team-mates to defy the critics
Star winger David Bell yesterday completed his protracted move to Championship side Norwich City.
Luton Town will receive an initial fee of £600,000 for the player, but that could rise to around £750,000 through add-ons.
And the 24-year-old midfielder has backed Town to defy their critics and hopes they will beat the drop.
He said: "Once I heard Norwich were interested in me I wanted to go there. Norwich were the only team that could agree a fee with Luton.
"I'm delighted to have moved to a big club such as Norwich City, but I've left a lot of friends behind at Luton and wish the boys all the best for next year and I really hope they pull out of the situation they are in.
"I honestly do believe they've got a chance. It's going to be difficult, but if they get off to a good start they've got a chance.
"I'm sad to go. When I went there it was a good step forward. What's happened over the last couple of years is bound to cripple any club.
"If they survive this year I think it will be good times again next year."
He also believes he won't be the last player out of Kenilworth Road and hopes the fans understand why he has left.
He said: "Part of the reason why I went is they need to raise some money to get people in.
"I think there will be a few more comings and goings. It's more about the budget.
"I had a really good time there (at Luton) and I hope the supporters don't think I have jumped ship at the last minute. I hope the fans understand why I have moved and I really hope the lads pull through this year."
Bell, who has been given the squad number 17, was signed by the Hatters from Rushden & Diamonds in January 2006 and scored eight goals in 89 games in all competitions for the Town.
