Top-of-the-table tussle hots up

On-loan Luton Town striker Steve Basham did his parent club a massive favour as his two goals helped Hayes & Yeading to a remarkable 2-1 victory at Oxford United on Tuesday night.

The U's were top of the Blue Square Premier table before the game, while Luton had claimed a 3-2 victory at Hayes on Saturday.

Manager Richard Money said: "Thanks very much! Obviously we need help from other people if we are going to challenge for that top spot, otherwise we have it in our own hands. It's amazing isn't it? Everyone thinks Hayes are a terrible team and they go and win 2-1 at Oxford.

"Saturday we play extremely well and everyone is entertained."
