River Festival fun continues
RAFT racers, a boat parade and a host of live acts showcased the best of Bedford today.
Thousands of people flocked to town to see live music from the likes of Pearl Handled Revolver, The Wholls and Elements of Refusal on the Community Stage and Rat In The Kitchen and later an Elvis impersonator on the main music stage.
Lee Vernon of Pearl Handled Revolver said: “The River Festival is an opportunity to see the wealth of talent that Bedford has to offer.”
There was action on the river too with the raft race heats and final. The two heats were won by The Ship Pub team, from St Cuthberts Street and the Danfoss Randall team who stopped yards from the finish line to do the final stretch backwards.
Victors in the raft race final were The Ship who will no doubt have a pint to celebrate this evening.
Community groups have been well represented throughout the weekend including Keech Hospice Care and the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB) which both had stalls in Mill Meadows.
Chris Buckle, of the RAOB, said: “We are here to promote the order and make ourselves known.
“We are supporting Clic Sergeant as our chosen charity this year.”
Throughout the weekend Times & Citizen reporters have been on site asking you what makes the Bedford River Festival so special.
Beverley Medwynter, who was enjoying bands by the Community Stage this afternoon, said: “The festival brings the community together and there is something for everyone.”
And Alan McKeown, who was visiting the festival for the first time, said: “For me it’s an opportunity to see some new bands in the sunshine with a beer.”
