Free event will celebrate all things Africa

A celebration of all things Africa is to be held in Bedford this weekend.

The Festival Africa event will showcase traditional songs, drumming and dancing, African fashion, stalls, quizzes and lots more.

It will be held on Saturday, from1pm-6pm at Harpur Square in the town centre.

The event has been organised by the Bedford African community, ACCM UK, in conjunction with SpectaculArts which works to engage, challenge and inspire communities in Bedford to come together and celebrate through dance, art, performance, music and education.

A spokesman for SpectaculArts said: Bedford has a rich and diverse population. SpectaculArts wants to harness this and create events to enrich, enhance and celebrate this diversity.

"We seek to bring these communities together to produce an event which celebrates the distinctiveness of Bedford’s diverse groups with a fantastic, colourful, and dynamic event.

An event spokesman added: “The event is free and all are welcome so come along and experience the Bedford Africain community.”
