New Aldi TV advert is a family affair
Some familiar faces can be seen on the latest advert for supermarket chain Aldi as it features father-and- daughter duo Libby and Emilina Lionetti.
Libby, who has run La Piazza cafe in St Paul’s Square for 15 years, and his 16-year-old daughter who is studying at Bedford College, also play a father and daughter in the advert.
And they are joined in the advert with fellow Bedfordians Pina De Spirito, Roberto D’Attilio, and the Lionettis’ namesake Nadia Lionetti (no relation).
A sixth Bedford-Italian, Pep De Michele, was also at the filming at a private home in Enfield three weeks ago, although he did not appear in the final advert.
Libby said: “It was a great day. I’m so busy running La Piazza that I don’t get to spend enough time with my daughter, and this was really special.
“The advert is on television all the time now, although it was weird at first - particularly watching programmes and wanting the adverts to hurry up and come on, rather than the other way around.
“Emilina is a star, although she now says that I took all the limelight!”
Libby said that his daughter’s dream is to work in theatre, but she followed in her father’s footsteps by appearing on-screen.
The cafe-owner has appeared in two films shot in Bedford by former rock star Richard Jobson.
