VIDEO: Beating the drum for a schools treat
A DAYJOB as a rock ’n’ roll star is one thing, but travelling around the country teaching schoolchildren the tricks of the trade is rather fun too.
Which is why former Status Quo sticksman Jeff Rich was in Bedfordshire last week.
Our photographer Tracey Goodacre caught up with him at Holmemead Middle School in Biggleswade, while videographer Natalee Hazelwood and content editor Ben Raza joined him at St Gregory’s Middle School on Thursday (January 26).
Jeff’s school visits begin with him talking about his career and the discipline of playing the drums. But they quickly turned into whole school jams, with students joining him individually and then as large groups to be shown his powers of percussion.
St Gregory’s headteacher Frances Topa said: “Jeff was in the area and this was too good an opportunity to miss. It’s a great opportunity to enrich what we do in the classroom.
“Pupils get access to a range of experience and a variety of percussion instruments that they wouldn’t otherwise have a chance to learn from. We try to make learning fun and our classrooms vibrant places, and I think we’ve done that today.”
