REVIEW: Wrestling Spectacular, Bedford Corn Exchange, Thursday, October 29

High flying fight club comes to town

Top rope elbow drops slammed down in Bedford's wrestling bonanza at the Corn Exchange.

The Wrestling Spectacular on Thursday, October 29, was full of action and youngsters on half-term break were not dissapointed.

It was not only youngsters who chanted 'England England' when Robbie Brookside took on Germany's Christian Eckstein for the European Inter-Continental Heavyweight title, it was men and women in their 30s, 40s and 50s too.

However, the German was not entirely without support as one section of the crowd boomed 'Deutschland Deutschland,' and it seems the support paid off because the German smited his opponent for the three count to retain his title.

All the contestants were well fired up and on more than one occasion got into verbal clashes with the audience.

The youngsters did not take it lightly and booed at the top of their voices when Destroyer Lee Darren shouted, "Why don't you lot just shut up."

However, it was Bedford's American guest, Chasyn Rance, the champion of Florida, who had the last word as he answered the screams of the audience and destroyed the destroyer.

A match-up between fans favourite Wade Fitzgerald and Haskins also went down well with the crowd.

The high flying, athletic duo put up an enthralling fight but it was Wade who overcame the volatile Haskins.

Fans will be in for another treat next year because the Wrestling Spectacular will return to Bedford in March 2010.

The next event promises to have more bite with an American style royal rumble as well as tag team match-ups with more close-lines, elbow drops and body slams.
