Review: Witches of Eastwick, Mitlon Keynes Theatre, Monday, February 23.

By Paul Fisher

A deliciously devilish performance by Marti Pellow makes sure The Witches of Eastwick is one hell of a musical.

He's the scandalously sexy Darryl Van Horne, thrusting himself, quite literally, on the small innocent town of Eastwick and in particular three troubled single women.

Pellow's over the top portrayal of the quick talking, smooth and charming Van Horne adds comedy to this sizzling production and is only upstaged by the power and harmony of Ria Jones, Rebecca Thornhill and Poppy Tierney, perfectly cast as the witches.

He may not be Jack Nicholson, but Pellow's smarmy antics, corrupting the young women of Eastwick, are played in such a stylish way that you can't help but laugh along with the devilish lothario.

Outside the leading four, the supporting cast give the professional and polished performance you expect these days of a West End theatre production, all producing strong and harmonious vocal displays and adding colour and movement to this very visual tale of human lust.

Special mention really should be made of Victoria Hay's superb portrayal of A Girl, one of the central supporting roles, who appears to be separate from the townsfolk and have an omniscient view of proceedings.

She gives Pellow the tools to seduce the three witches and silently provides the audience with metacritical commentary on the witches' emotional states.

Her clever interplay with Pellow and sly knowing looks add comedy to Eastwick's melting pot, and she has a malleable singing voice to boot.

This wicked production will have you reaching for your broomstick and flying down to Milton Keynes Theatre before you can say dance with the devil.

Go see it.

The Witches of Eastwick is showing at Milton Keynes Theatre un til Saturday, February 28.
