REVIEW: The Secret of Sherlock Holmes, Cambridge Arts Theatre.
The secret to a good play not so elementary
England's greatest detective and sidekick combination played by two of England's greatest theatrical actors.
But sadly, and the half empty theatre should have signalled this on my way in, not one of Britain's greatest scripts.
Jeremy Paul's The Secret of Sherlock Holmes has none of the mystery, excitement and little wit compared to Arthur Conan Doyle's classic books.
Instead it looks at the relationship of Holmes and Watson.
The play keeps the audience interested, not because of the plot or the dialogue, but because of the skill with which it is acted by the ever excellent Philip Franks and Peter Egan.
That and the fact that the running time of the play is only 70 minutes, I've been to some short performances over the years, but I think that's a record and may have audience members questionng the 27 price tag for tickets.
The show runs until Saturday, April 24.
