REVIEW: Sleeping Beauty with the Moscow Ballet at Bedford Corn Exchange
By Paul Fisher
To be honest I'm not the world's biggest authority on ballet I admit it - but even I can tell when I have some of the best dancers on the circuit today performing in front of me.
Russia is renowned for producing ballet dancers of supreme quality and Moscow Ballet are certainly not letting the side down.
The choreography in the second and third acts in particular was outstanding after a scene setting first half.
Once the elegance of Sleeping Beauty and the strength of Prince Charming takes to the stage at the beginning of act two it is very easy to sit back in your chair and appreciate the skill, poise and sheer training it takes to move so gracefully across the stage.
Supported by a chorus of equally elegant fairies and supporting dancers, it is almost mezmerizing to watch the full cast moving as one.
Sure to please ballet novices, like myself, and the more discerning critics of dance alike, this touring show gave Bedfordians easy access into the world of top class ballet.
