REVIEW: Calendar Girls, Milton Keynes Theatre
Make a date for these Calendar Girls
Obviously Calendar Girls is a show best known because the female cast take their clothes off.
But such is the comedy surrounding the fleeting moment where all is revealed – while remaining tastefully covered by buns – you become far more concerned with the women's relationships and waiting for the next gag.
And of these there are plenty, an emotional play about the effects of cancer it is, but it's impossible to stay serious for long as the one liners about ladies high society, men, alcohol, plum jam and Jerusalem never stop coming.
The cast cannot be faulted in anyway, with stand out performances from Lynda Bellingham and Jan Harvey whose on-stage relationship make the characters so believable and allows the audience to relate.
See this and you'll never look at the Women's Institute in the same way again.
Calendar Girls runs until Saturday, March 27.
