Fortnightly art sportlight: Mark Spain’s classics
MBTC-25-06-12- Mark Spain works Art Centre Gallery. Bedford.
‘INSTANT classic’ might be the sort of phrase that is too easily bandied around in the world of arts, but in the case of Mark Spain it is rather appropriate.
Because this artists, who is being featured at the Art Centre & Gallery in Howard Street until July 7, creates pieces that are immediately evocative.
Mark has been interested in art since an early age, and spent many years developing his etching and collagraph techniques in his own studio in Kent.
Over the years his reputation and standing have developed to the point where he is one of the UK’s most famous and established figurative artists, with work commissioned for Kew Gardens, Nat West Bank and The Dorchester Hotel.
His collagraphs have been exhibited at Mall Galleries, and his abstract oils at the 20th Century British Art Fair as well as other works being shown at the Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Show and the Barbican Contemporary Print Fair, while his figurative works have been published by Washington Green.
