An antidote to festive cheer
Award winning Stewartby Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society bring a classic to the stage
Everybody seems to be getting in the festive spirit already and all the theatre's are starting to advertise their happy family fun filled pantos.
But before Go! gets too far down that route, first we'd like to tell you about a different type of tale, one not so full of Christmas cheer, just a gripping thriller of a love story with fantastic music.
In fact it's about an ancient curse which tears apart the love of two tender, slightly whimsical, hearts.
Throw in a bit of abduction, betrayal and the ghostly appearance of unquiet spirits and all of a sudden you have a new production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Ruddigore, lovingly recreated by Stewartby Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (SAODS).
In case you're not familiar with the work, it tells the tale of the bad barons of Ruddigore Castle, doomed to commit a crime every day for the rest of their lives, or die in unspeakable torments.
This is Gilbert and Sullivan at their tongue-in-cheek best, full of plot twists, moral dilemmas, Gilbert's witty patter and some of Sullivan's most lyrical and dramatic music.
Plus SAODS have proven time and again to be amateur dramatics at its peak, with a National Operatic and Dramatic Association Award last year, and nearly 60 years of production experience under their belt.
Ruddigore is on nightly at Stewartby Village Hall from next Tuesday (November 17) until Saturday (November 21).
Performances start at 7.30pm and tickets cost between 8 and 10. For more information and tickets call Ann on 01525 402457 or visit www.saods.org.uk
