Times Past: Dan Dickey and The Firstborn at BMS
BMS The Firstborn, 1952 Times Past, February 2012
WE tread the boards in the winter of 1952 for this school play at Bedford Modern School.
The irrepressible Dan Dickey (staff 1949-80), who died in 1991, produced The Firstborn by Christopher Fry, OBM, as the school play in the Christmas term of that year.
The play, which concerns two of the Plagues of Egypt, was put on in London 60 years ago, with Alec Clunes (father of Martin) in the role of Moses.
Christopher Fry, who died in 2005 aged nearly 98, came to one of the rehearsals but was unable to attend a performance.
This photo appears in The BMS We Knew, published in 2006. Thnaks go to Ricahrd Wildman for providing the picture and the information.
