Dan in third place overall

Dan Wheldon claimed a seventh place finish in the latest round of the IndyCar Series in Canada.

Starting from ninth place on the grid at the Rexail Edmonton Indy, the former Bedford School pupil had a podium finish in his sights but lost ground following a collision with Oriol Servia in the final stages of the race.

Wheldon's Target Chip Ganassi team-mate Scott Dixon extended his lead at the top of the standings with his fifth win of the campaign.

Helio Castroneves finished the 91-lap race in second place with Justin Wilson a place further back in third. Wheldon is now in third place in the standings, 115 points behind Dixon. Next up for Wheldon is the Meijer Indy 300 in Kentucky on August 9.

Today's Vote

Can marathon runner Paula Radcliffe and badminton star Gail Emms win Olympic gold for Bedford?
Paula's injury and the quality of Gail's opponents might make it tough.
I'm backing Paula to fulfil her dream at last.
Gail must do it after her fabulous first round win with Nathan Robertson.
Come on girls! You both can do it!
