Flitwick put to the sword as brutal Ickwell claim an emphatic triumph

The wet weather played havoc with the weekend's cricket fixtures, causing a large number of them to be cancelled.

In the Bedfordshire County League Premier Division, Ampthill Town's game with Luton Town & Indians was cancelled and, although Flitwick's game with Ickwell beat the weather they will wish it hadn't.

Having put Ickwell into bat, the hosts made 235. Flitwick struggled in reply as they were bowled out for just 165.

Fixtures in the Saracens Herts League also took a beating, with Ampthill, Flitwick and Eversholt all having their fixtures wiped out.

There was a 16-run victory for Wilden over Thurleigh in the Bedford and District League Premier Division.

Batting first, Wilden made 156-8, with A Teacher hitting 26, M Warman, 28, and S White an unbeaten 24.

The wickets were shared around between Thurleigh's bowlers, with C Franklin, C Wood and R Stean taking two wickets each and R Milne and N Knowles one apiece.

In reply Thurleigh fell just short with 142 all out, despite a half century from O Jordan and an undefeated 31 from R Milne.

S Bambury and S White were Wilden's best bowlers with 4-29 and 4-23 respectively, while S Elphick backed them up with 2-37.

In Division One, Brickhill thrashed Renhold by 141 runs.

Brickhill batted first and made a healthy 205-8, Phil Wainwright hitting 49 and Martin Kinsella 50.

Renhold though could only manage a paltry 44 in reply, Kinsella taking 4-13 and Asif Mohammed 3-29.

Putnoe claimed a comfortable eight-wicket victory against Little Staughton. Little Staughton batted first and made 123-8, Mark Russell's 4-22 well backed up again by Alan Harper-Smith with 3-39.

Kev Appleton then led Putnoe to victory with a super unbeaten 63, while Stevie Macdougall made a valuable 32 as Putnoe reached 127 for the loss of just two wickets.

Thurleigh IIs' Third Division match at Wilden IIs, meanwhile, was cancelled due to the weather.

Too right, food and energy bills are hurting the most.
As long as I don't lose my job I'm just about OK
