Blues won't go the same way as their London rivals
London Welsh's financial problems should serve as a warning to every other club in the Championship.
That is the belief of Bedford Blues' director of rugby Mike Rayer who thinks the same fate could befall other clubs if they aren't careful with the financial side of the game.
Welsh are currently a massive £1.8million in debt and their chief investor, Kelvin Bryon, has said that they can only operate for one more month and, as a result, they have been forced to call in the administrators.
Speaking about the situation, Rayer said: "It's aleways a sad day when this sort of thing happens.
"I know their coach Danny Wilson quite well and he had no indication that this was going to happen.
"Maybe it's a cry for help because the same tight finances are everywhere."
And Rayer believes that the RFU need to have a good look at the situation.
He continued: "A club have gone down the road the RFU wanted and have gone down.
"A sustainable model has to be in operation. There has to be accountability and, most importantly, there has to be proper funding."
Fortunately, the Blues don't find themselves in such a predicament and Rayer says this is down to the club's hierarchy and supporters.
He added: "We're lucky here with the chairman, the board of directors and the fans.
"We get 2,500 every week, the season ticket sales are going well and getting people through the gate is massively important.
"To maintain top-level rugby at Goldington Road, people need to turn up and watch and hopefully that will continue."
