Bedford muay thai fighter Tom Berrington will be competing in his first international fight in Corfu on Sunday.
The 24-year-old, who trains out of the Eagles thai boxing gym on Ampthill Road, is a member of the England Amateur Team.
He will be heading to the event this weekend, that is being run by the International Federation of Muay Thai Amateurs.
He warmed up for the bout with an impressive win at the back end of last month against the London and Home Counties champion, which was also ideal preparation for the upcoming World Championships in Thailand in November.
In other action, Westoning fighter Stephen Marriott has just returned from Athens after competing in his second SKIF World Championships.
He was part of the England team that came back with a total of five medals, finishing tenth overall out of 35 competing countries.
The medals included two golds, two silver and one bronze. Golds were achieved in individual boys kumite (16-17yrs) and individual mens kumite (45-49yrs). Other medals were won in the masters kumite (silver & bronze) and team kata.
After 19 years of competing Marriott, who is a fourth dan, is now looking to coach the next England squad for the 2012 World Championships in Australia.
