Women perform well at St Neots

Star Club women's squad recorded their best series of results for a number of years at the St Neots Regatta at the weekend.

Racing over a 1,000m long course on Saturday, the women's novice four of Georgina Davies, Michelle Seddon, Kirsten Proctor, Isobel Garrard and cox Sophie Bulled had a convincing win of four lengths to beat Norwich in the final.

Sunday's sprints, contested over 500m, produced a double success for the women when the S4 crew of Sophie Barnwell, Ellie Rowles, Debra Scott, Helen Thompson and cox Martine Kushner impressively beat Milton Keynes by a length to win their category and move up to S3 standard.

The two fours then combined with cox Clarissa Coveny for a hard fought eight's final against Maidstone, with the scratch combination rowing with good control to win by one length in the final.

Elsewhere, there was a first major win for the men's novice A crew of Alex Collard, Simon Lamb, Andy Chillingsworth and Dick Talboys, coxed by Martine Kushner, who convincingly fought off Maidstone Invitica in the final to secure the win which was enough to move them up to S4 status.
