Bedford Banger could go up against Italian Poalo Vidoz

Matt Skelton could get the chance to fight for the European Heavyweight title after Sinal Samil Sam vacated the belt following his victory against Poalo Vidoz.

Sam, who controversially claimed victory against Vidoz after a recount, wants to seek out a fresh challenge on the world stage and this has left the door open for Skelton.

The Bedford Banger, 41, who has suffered just two defeats on points, has been nominated to fight Vidoz for the European Boxing Union belt with a deadline of September 8 set for purse bids.

Skelton, who has been out of action since his points loss to Ruslan Chagaev in January, will fancy his chances against the Italian, who has been on the receiving end of five defeats, two of them stoppages.

Vidoz stepped into the breach to fight Sam after Skelton was forced to withdraw through illness.

Today's Vote

Can marathon runner Paula Radcliffe and badminton star Gail Emms win Olympic gold for Bedford?
Paula's injury and the quality of Gail's opponents might make it tough.
I'm backing Paula to fulfil her dream at last.
Gail must do it after her fabulous first round win with Nathan Robertson.
Come on girls! You both can do it!
