Results go Meltis' way
Bedfordshire Football League
Despite ending their Premier Division season with defeat, Meltis Corinthians still managed to finish third after results elsewhere went in their favour.
Aaron Hazelwood found the net for the Sweetboys, but could not prevent them from falling to a 2-1 home defeat against champions Campton.
Blunham though failed to take advantage as a Matty Smith strike sent them crashing to a 1-0 defeat at AFC Kempston Town.
Runners-up Oakley Sports finished the season on a high with a 7-2 home victory over Sharnbrook. Jamie McLennan and John Hislop both scored twice, while Owen Rush, Jamie Endersby and Dave Baxter were also on target.
Shaun Barnett grabbed a brace in reply for Sharnbrook.
David Benson was on the scoresheet twice as Wilshamstead finally ended a nightmare 17-game losing run with a 3-0 home win over Riseley Sports. Michael Jones also found the net.
Elsewhere, Robbie Faulkner also finished with a flourish, netting a hat-trick as Westoning Recreation Club hammered Renhold United 6-1. Eric Van Der Ven (2) and a solo effort from Ollie Summers capped a memorable display. Sam Maddix got United's reply.
Division One winners Bedford Salvation Army brought the curtain down on 20 years of history by adding the Centenary Cup to their league crown following a 2-1 win over AFC Kempston Town Reserves.
The club, who will be known as Bedford Sports Athletic as of next season after parting ways with the Salvation Army, sealed the remarkable double thanks to second half goals from James Dougan and James Allen, which cancelled out a first half effort from Town's Tristan Peck.
Riseley Sports Reserves stunned Kings AFC 2-1 to lift the Watson Shield. Nathan Clements gave Kings the lead in the first half from the penalty spot, but the Sportsmen hit back to win thanks to a Jayme Harris double
In Division One, third placed Dunton were held to a 2-2 home draw by Kempston. Tom McGhee and Lee Threadgold were the home marksmen, while Daniel Burraway and Tom Buck, via the penalty spot, replied for the visitors.
Bedford College, meanwhile, were crowned champions of Division Two following their 7-2 hammering of Marston Shelton Rovers.
Sammy Guri hit the back of the net four times, Eric Okoth twice and Martin Ivy once.
The result meant Meltis Albion had to make do with second place, despite a 6-0 stroll against Blunham Reserves.
Scott Alleyne scored twice to take his tally for the season to 50, while Darren Ashpole (2), plus single strikes from Michael Butler and Tom Hughes completed the rout.
Meanwhile, the battle for the wooden spoon in Division Three went the way of Lidlington United Reserves who beat fellow strugglers Exel United 5-3.
Robert Cacchio's treble set United on their way and he was well supported by strikes from Neil Rogers and Daniel Newby, as Jeremy Aceto's hat-trick for United proved in vain as they end their luckless season bottom of the Bedfordshire League.
